Back Home for a Family Visit

Wow. It has been awhile since I have written here. But since this is really more like a travel journal and I really have not traveled much this past semester, is a good reason for my lack of entries.

So came into So Cal on Thursday the 12th.

On Friday the 13th, the LA Kings were playing their Stanley Cup Finals against the NY Rangers. It was game 5. Both teams played really well and the game had gone into 2nd overtime. Then the Kings made a beautiful play.

And then the LA Kings has won the Stanley Cup which is their 2nd Stanley Cup Championship in 3 years.

Stanley Cup Champions

It was an awesome evening becoming champions on Friday the 13th, with a full moon and wearing my Kings jersey.

Then drove to San Diego to visit one of my best friends, Kimberly, for the weekend.

Saturday the 14th, we had lunch at Mimi’s and had a great conversation. Other parts of the day was dessert at Denny’s and Indian takeout which we ate at her house. I had not had Indian in years. It was really good. I could smell the great aroma of Indian food when we walked in to order.

Sunday the 15th was barbeque with her dad and her guy sitting outside in the back years. It was nice to be able to do that which is something not quite possible in the summer back in Louisiana.

Then went back to my DD’s to take him out for a steak dinner at The Prospector for Father’s Day. A place he always wanted to go but never did.

Monday the 16th for dinner I went to Marcine’s and had dinner with her, her guy Mike, and my 2 cousins Melissa and Michelle. Marcine made bow tie pasta with chicken breast covered with a type of alfredo sauce. It was really good.

Tuesday the 17th was lunch at Johnny Rebs’. A place I had eaten for years when I lived here. Besides, what is better than being able to get a basket of peanuts and throwing the shells on the floor.

Wednesday the 18th was lunch at Souplantation with Bonnie and DD. Then back to Bonnie’s house to hang out. DD and I then went to the newly remodeled Griffith Observatory. There is a whole new downstairs/basement that was dug out and filled with more exhibits. Saw the new planetarium and digital projector in a new show. And saw a great view of LA.

We then went to a place called Syrup Desserts. What a cool place you can only find in LA. We shared a chicken mozzarella sandwich (which was really good and better than the desserts. Which is saying a lot.) For dessert I got a 7 layer chocolate cake and DD got a crape. They were both really good. We stayed until it closed which was at midnight.

AD, JK, Mom and Oryn flew in on Thursday the 19th.

On Friday the 20th, DD, AD, JK and I when to the Fonda Theater on Hollywood Blvd. to see Yann Tiersen.

Yann Tiersen

For those who do not know him, he is the composer for the movie Amelie. He also has 8 albums out with a very unique sound.

It was an awesome concert.

So today, DD, AD, JK, Mom, Bonnie, Oryn and I all went to the Crystal Cove to spend a day at a beach house that Louann (my Dad’s sister’s husband’s brother’s wife) had for the weekend. Other parts of her family were also there. This house is really on the beach and you can see the ocean from the front window. It was really cool. DD and I did this last year but for the rest, it was their 1st time. We all really enjoyed it.
