Seeing Eagles and Whales in Ketchican, Alaska

Today we arrived at our first port in Alaska which is Ketchican.  It is a pretty island.  Lots of green and nice looking houses.  Our excursion was titled Lighthouse, Totem Poles and Eagles.  A 3.5 hour tour with our guide Bob who was cheerful, funny and really made the excursion enjoyable with his descriptions and history of the current people living in the houses by the water.  As soon as the tour started, we saw a bald eagle really close up.  It was magnificent.  Also saw more eagles and their nests in the trees.  Saw the lighthouse. A nice looking lighthouse.  The highlight of the day was seeing humpback whales doing the bubble and jump up and eat the fish thing.  About 6 whales make a circle of bubbles to trap the fish then from underneath, go the surface and eat the fish. It happens so fast I got only one good shot of it.  One of the girls working on the tour boat, Micah, grew up on one of the really small islands.  I even took a picture of her with her island house behind her.

Then back to the ship for some food.  We then watched another show called Stardust.  It was music from late 40s and 50s.  More jazzy and pop but not rock.  There were songs I did not even recognize.  Then went to listen to a band play rock and roll and danced with the nurse from dance class.  We then went to hear the Gemstone Quartet who plays every night.  A really good and tight group with a singer, piano, bass and drums. I danced cha cha with cute girl, Brooke, which was her first time dancing it.

Then a small snack before going back to our room to sleep.  Tomorrow is another port and excursion.
